What Makes A Great Bubble Tea Store Design Layout?

How you design your bubble tea store is going to depend on two things, your budget and how much space you have.

If you have a lot of space and a big budget, then you can design a huge restaurant-type store with the following:

  • Front ordering area
  • Back kitchen
  • Interior seating for customers

But if you are on a more limited budget, then you can put your store into a food stand, food truck, kiosk, or mini-bubble tea store (Small Tea Shop Floor Plan). Most people choose a store that is somewhere in the middle which comes out to be about 15ft x 10ft.

Bubble Tea Kitchen Design

One of the most important elements of a bubble tea kitchen design is having the right equipment. A proper setup will ensure you can continue to make a delicious product without becoming bogged down by untimely repairs, breakdowns, and delays.

For a well-functioning boba kitchen, you should have the following:

These items are necessary to properly craft boba tea. The stove will be used to make your tapioca pearls and tea (you can also use a dedicated tea brewer), while the shaker, sealer, and fructose dispenser develop the right consistency and flavors and put the final finish on your sealed cups. Whether you make milk teas or not, you will also want a fridge to keep your prepared mixtures fresh and cool between customers.

The shaker machine is essential if you serve cooled teas and need to mix ice with your drinks and will help dissolve powders like taro bubble tea powder.  A sealer is a new machine that seals cups while cutting down on plastic waste. The fructose dispenser will allow you to add a consistent amount of fructose (liquid sugar) to your drink every time. Depending on your store, all might be essential.

Also, to keep your kitchen up to code, remember to have sinks. These will allow employees to wash their hands and clean up spills without difficulty.

Bubble Tea Shop Electrical Requirements

Another important part of having a professional kitchen is ensuring your electrical system can manage the output and requirements of all your equipment. Failing to have an up-to-date system can result in power outages, malfunctioning equipment, and electrocution.

To give you an idea of the output of basic boba tea equipment, here are the amp requirements for our 3 most popular bubble tea machines:

Shaker machine: 75W ÷ 110V = 0.6818 AMPS

Sealer machine: 400W ÷ 110V = 3.6364 AMPS

Fructose dispenser: 300W ÷ 110V = 2.7273 AMPS

If you use a tea shop brewer in your shop, it will need to be wired by an electrician and have a direct water source.

Bubble Tea Shop Health Department Requirements

When planning your Bubble Tea Store Design Layout. Be sure to check with your local health department about specifics on how many sinks and drains you will need in your kitchen area.  Usually, one sink needs to be designated to hand washing.  Some inspectors will also require UL Certification on your bubble tea machines. Bubble Tea Store Design Layout

Once you have the practical aspects like electrical systems and the proper equipment out of the way, you can focus on design. To create a functional kitchen, you need to be careful about where you place your machines. Employees need space to work, and you want to make sure there aren’t random accidents caused by people walking into one another or tripping over wires.

In a classic sample space, a boba tea kitchen and store should be at least 15 x 10 ft. This provides adequate room for all the machinery, employees, and a point of sale. To keep the flow of the kitchen, it is important to have all of the cooking done in one spot. And all of the tea customization in another.

For example, if you want a kitchen that makes its boba by hand, you should have the stove and tea brewer together on the far side, away from the point of sale. Employees will only be over there when cooking. Next, you have the other elements of tea creation: ice storage, a shaver, flavor dispensers, and tea dispensers. Employees can then get what they need from the cooking side, make the right drink, and bring it over to where the customer will be.

To better serve customers, keep only the machinery for the last steps of tea creation near the point of sale. This means the shaker and sealer can be on the counter near the point of sale. But they should not be in the way.

Conclusion

Boba, or bubble tea, is a delicious treat that has taken the world by storm. It was first developed in Taiwan in the 1980s and rapidly spread throughout Asia in the 1990s. Eventually, it became an international phenomenon. This unique drink features a type of tea served with chewy tapioca balls or pearls. The tea itself can be floral fruity, made with milk, or made without.

Because of its popularity, quirkiness, and deliciousness, more and more entrepreneurs are interested in opening their own boba tea shops. Before doing so, it is important to consider a couple of key factors when building a kitchen, shop, or restaurant.

Ultimately, the best boba tea kitchen design emphasizes simplicity. The best bubble tea kitchen design emphasizes simplicity. You want to utilize your space to get the most out of your bubble tea machines and give your employees (even if it’s just you) proper space to craft delicious drinks. When in doubt, keep everything simple and focus on making great tea.
